D.E.F.S. - ang. Defensive Edge Fighting System
Basis
Progression - not perfection
Why D.E.F.S.?
The name of the system is not accidental. Deliberately, the word “Defensive” comes first, as the most salient distinction of D.E.F.S. as opposed to systems focused on “winning” or “eliminating threats” is the defensive mindset, that is, the desire to minimize losses on both sides. This mentality shapes the entire tactical approach, focusing on control, de-escalation and proportional response.
The word “Edge” carries a double meaning - it means not only the literal blade, but also the edge or verge, drawing attention to the essence of understanding and using distance work in combat. Controlling that edge between engagement and withdrawal is fundamental to the system.
The “Fighting” component emphasizes the element of a clash (often impossible to avoid), while recognizing it as a suboptimal means of achieving safety despite the applicability of numerous D.E.F.S. elements in self-defense and in sports. My author's system addresses actual violence without glorifying it.
The word “System” emphasizes the eclectic nature of D.E.F.S. combining the verifiability of sports with elements of self-defense and art.

Artur Bednarek - Lead Trainer and Product Development Manager
I am a certified self defense and martial arts instructor from Polish Sport Academy (Polska Akademia Sportu) since 2018 and I do own a k-2 SPAS knife fighting certificate since 2016.
The subject of white weapons, martial sports and widely understood personal safety was always at my keen interest. After childhood, during which I was lucky enough to try Karate and Judo, I trained „Modern Ju-Jitsu” under Shihan Krzysztof Dawidowicz, then traditional Ju-Jitsu (KoKoDo), fighting with weapons based on japanese, chinese and filipino martial arts, boxing, Savate (french boxing, which also included La Canne – walking stick fencing), sparring meetings that then became „Niedzielne Spotkania Sparingowe” (Sunday Sparring Meetings), SPAS (russian system designed by Konstantin Voyushin), Sport knife fighting by SPAS under Roman Minikayev.
